Heroes.

January 17, 2008

Animated by my last post, I began surfing for traces of my youth on the net. Luck of all lucks, I stumbled upon some of my childhood heroes:

Bioman

Red 1! Green 2! Blue 3! Yellow 4! Pink 5! Bio team fight! Bioman! My favorite? I think Yellow 4 majorly kicked ass. I used to wear her mask while I played “Bioman” with my playmate (who in turn played “Pink 5″).

Shaider

Shaider and Annie, what a sweet couple. Vavilos. Suzuki bike. Beam Gun. Laser Sword.

Shaider saved our galaxy from being owned by some freaky monsters. RIP Hiroshi Tsuburaya.

Voltes V

Let’s! Volt! Iiin! Vooooltes-Fiiiii-vah! Check out the volt-in sequence:

Haha, Jamie gets to rule the shoes. How girly is that? Naughty grade school classmates of mine used the let’s-volt-in-phrase as a code word for banging.

Seeing these old school cartoons again with all it’s flashy effects and enthralling plots was a very nostalgic trip way down memory lane. It was so beautiful that I had to *ehem* cry

Every child needs a hero.

Let’s end today’s post with the closing credits of Voltes V:

Good night.

Kudos to the 21-year-old Vincent Bueno, who won Austria’s talent competition “Musical! Die Show(note that they pronounce “die” as “dee” ;) ) on ORF, an Austrian public-service broadcaster.

One thing that impressed me, granted that it is true, was the fact that he got admitted to the Vienna Conservatory by performing a sketch of an Indian who was asking for directions to the train station in a funny Indian-German accent, while all his other co-aspirants were into Shakespeare and Co..

For sure we will be hearing and seeing more of Vince now. Keep up the fantastic work kid, you make us all proud!

I sighted this petty dispute between two Turkish boys over the conquest of the famous garden hammock.
Boys will be boys.

Cyrano de Bergerac.

Cyrano de Bergerac

Sold out. The student theater group “Ars Bene Agendi” in Tübingen premiered its last production for this winter semester last Monday, December 10 – Edmond Rostand’s “Cyrano de Bergerac”.

The play tells the story about Cyrano de Bergerac, a hopeless romantic afraid of revealing his true affections for the love of his life, the beautiful Roxanne. Cyrano, a French cadet and a remarkable poet indeed, is in fact a lonely soul deep inside, who longs to be loved but is quite hesitant to let it happen as he believes that his physical appearance (his enormous nose specifically) does not make him worthy. Instead, he helps Christian de Neuville, a handsome cadet in Cyrano’s troop, capture Roxanne’s heart once he learned that Christian himself is in love with Roxanne as well.

A bittersweet romantic comedy with a tragic fate, “Cyrano de Bergerac” continues to play this week in the Brechtbautheater in Tübingen. The dernier will be on Saturday.

“I have eaten the cakes, Monsieur de Bergerac.”

“Good. Now go out and enjoy Nature.”

I just found out that Cyrano de Bergerac currently runs on Broadway too. Aaah, the flukes of life.

ESP.

December 13, 2007

I sent my best friend a text message today asking her to finally give me a sign of her existence as I have not heard from her since weeks now. It totally bowled me over when she wrote back that she actually sent me an e-mail a few hours before. You see, we have this thing about doing certain stuff at the same time without even knowing it. I recall one moment when we actually wrote each other a letter on the very same day. We were indeed dumbfounded by this coincidence when we gave each other our letters in school the next day (it was on a Monday; we wrote the letters on a Saturday). There were times when I suddenly just get the urge to talk to her, when as she would actually have the need of talking to someone saner than her at that very moment.

Well now, 11 years later and about 10,500 km further, our ESP for each other still never seems to evanesce.
